Ladybugs have oval shaped bodies. They can be red with black spots and a black head. They have 6 legs.
The 7 spotted ladybug lives in North America. Many other species of ladybugs live in other places.
Ladybugs hibernate when the weather gets cold. They hibernate under rocks, logs and even in houses! Thousands of ladybugs can hibernate together in the same spot.
Did you know that as a ladybug gets older, her spots start to fade away? To find out more interesting facts, visit this site:

Saturday, March 2, 2013
Directions
As a class, we have been learning about how animals survive the cold weather. We have learned about adaptations, hibernation and migration. You will find out which animal does which!
You will be assigned into groups of 4. Look for your group number. The animal next to it is the animal you are assigned:
Group 1 - Mallard Duck
Group 2 - Jackrabbit (whitetail)
Group 3 - Brown Bear
Group 4 - American Bullfrogs
Group 5 - Bactrian Camels
Group 6 - Peregrine Falcons
Group 7 - Monarch Butterfly
Group 8 - Raccoon
Group 9 - Chipmunks
You may click on the link below to research your animal.
Directions:
- You will be creating a post on this blog (in class) to share with the other students. Each person in your group will be in charge of answering one of the questions. Every question must be answered! You will then come together as a group, share your findings and create the post for this blog together in class. One post from each group is required.
- The title of your post should be the name of your animal and what it does in the winter. For example : Ladybugs Hibernate!
- Answer the following questions in your post:
- What does your animal look like? Describe the characteristics of your assigned animal.
- Where does your animal live?
- How does your animal survive the cold weather? Explain what your animal does in the winter. Does it adapt, migrate or hibernate?
- Did you know? Give an interesting fact about the animal you were assigned that would make the reader want to find out more about your animal.
- Include a direct link to the page your animal can be found on the website. Tell us why we should use this link to read more about your animal.
- Include two pictures of your animal. The pictures should match what you are describing as you answer your questions.
- Write all your names at the bottom of the post.
I have created an example post for you. The title is: Ladybugs Hibernate!
